Tragic Bus Accident in Oaxaca: 18 Dead

A bus transporting supporters of the ruling Regeneración Nacional (Morena) movement overturned this Monday morning on a highway in Oaxaca, southern Mexico. According to authorities, the people aboard had attended the political rally of President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City, an event that gathered thousands of Mexicans in the capital's Zócalo. Two people were transported in critical condition to hospitals in Juchitán de Zaragoza, while another 10 are in stable condition.

After the accident, personnel from the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) of Oaxaca and other public institutions were deployed to provide support to the families of the victims. President Claudia Sheinbaum lamented the accident and expressed her solidarity with the families of the deceased and the injured during her morning press conference. In her words, she promised to provide all necessary support to those affected.

During the conference, Sheinbaum mentioned that the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and the Deputy Secretary of the agency, Arturo Medina, have been in contact with the families of the victims. She also informed that a team will head to the accident site. The governor of Oaxaca is also involved in addressing this tragic situation.
